Company Background

ReviewSNAP™ is a division of Applied Training Systems, Incorporated. Located in suburban Des Moines, Iowa, Applied Training Systems was founded in May 1995 by David Arringdale. The company’s initial focus was as a provider of management consulting and training services. Its clients spanned a wide variety of industries and included both for-profit and non-profit organizations.

Over the years, the company expanded into publishing business books, manuals, and workbooks written for the purpose of assisting small and mid-sized business owners and managers in issues ranging from various types of planning to managing people. These publications are sold worldwide as e-books through the website www.mybusinessbooks.com.

Mr. Arringdale had long had a concern about the quality, consistency, and processes surrounding formal performance reviews and employee feedback. As someone who has led organizations through significant turnarounds, he instituted new communication and performance management processes in those organizations. He believed strongly that managers must have an efficient and accountability-oriented performance review infrastructure to use in managing documentation of employee performance as well as the formalized completion of performance review documents.

The company began searching for and researching existing automated performance management tools. During that process, it became painfully evident that those that did exist were too expensive and too complex for the company’s client base. The decision was made to develop a proprietary web-based performance management system that could be used with the company’s existing client base and marketed to other organizations.
